Monday March 23rd, 2020 kicking off this weeks Vlog/Blog I will be showcasing Global Game Jam. Due to the Coronavirus I have not been out doing any production. For the next couple weeks I will be sharing past productions.

The Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games, while at the same time exploring the process of development, be it programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle. The GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity.

I hope you enjoy this fun packed video. For an extended interview stay tuned for The SacTown Insider Rogue Edition for future air dates. I look forward to bringing you the next adventure next week!

Ability Awareness Through My Lens Post 30

Monday March 2nd, 2020 kicking off this weeks Vlog/Blog we had the pleasure of having author Katherine Jones.

Katherine wrote: Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “Do something everyday that scares you.” I did that recently. Let me explain.

Most of you know I authored a book entitled, “Foster Cat Foster Kid God Says You Don’t Have to Eat Dirt Anymore!” My book was released in October of 2015, at which time a family member was diagnosed with cancer. As I couldn’t allow my family member go without my support during such an ordeal, I put my book on hold for two years. Then I personally suffered some health issues, continuing to put my book on hold, yet continuing my advocacy work.

When writing my book, being a person of faith, I prayed God would send my book and myself where He wanted us to go, and bring the people into my life who could help me accomplish that. He has done that. I hate the limelight. That is out of my “comfort zone.” I prefer to do my work behind the scenes. The reality is I’m in my twilight years, have some mobility issues, and a face for radio. I don’t make it a habit to share videos of myself on social media. For me, my advocacy work is meant to educate and help people and is, and always will be, MOST important. However, I am seeing more often than not that many people are suffering similar experiences as I, and am hoping perhaps my book can help them. Therefore, I feel it would be selfish on my part not to take the risk of putting myself out there so they know they are not alone in their suffering and there is HOPE for them, no matter the obstacles they may be facing. I must not allow my fright to infringe on that goal. Therefore, recently I ventured into my FIRST EVER interview with a local cable television production company. My hope is that sharing my story in this interview will be inspiring and helpful to those it may reach. Trust me, this is NOT an effort for me to sell books, as I have given away more books than I can count. That is NOT what this is about.

I would like to thank the following people for being tremendously kind, patient, understanding, accommodating and supportive to me in this experience:

Vee Ellis,Television Executive Producer at The SacTown Insider; Katelyn Ellis, Studio Operations at Access Sacramento and the entire CREW; Alma Leiva, my amazing interviewer and who was kind enough to apply my make-up so I’d be presentable for the cameras; my husband Ed, who drove me to the studio (as I hate to drive as many know) and always has been my Rock; and my sister, Bettie, who fixed my hair and was, as always, a huge support.

My interview was captured on February, but will be aired on the following channels on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 8 pm PST. I don’t know if only local people can watch the live stream or if my friends on the East Coast can too. Just remember I’m 3 hours behind you there. There will be further announcements of other sites my interview can be seen in the near future, from what I hear.

So many of the advocates I work with have inspired me in so many ways and I want to thank you ALL! *Special thanks go to Jasmina Nikolov, Kammy Lee, Stevey Jones, Brian Donahue, Tammi Cricket Andrews, Kris L Phoenix, Mila Atas, LaTasha C. Watts and Pk Hill for their encouragement and support when I wasn’t sure I’d have the confidence to do this.

Once again, interview airing March 4th at 8 pm PST on these channnels:

Comcast or Consolidated Communications Cable Channel 17 AT&T U-Verse Channel 14

Apple TV+

Roku

IPTV (using your smart TV or Firestick – go directly to our website http://www.accesssacramento.org, and click on the “Watch 17” icon)

I hope you enjoy this fun packed video. For an extended interview stay tuned for The SacTown Insider Rogue Edition for future air dates. I look forward to bringing you the next adventure next week!

Jene wrote: Zak and I have been together since 2014 and he proposed to me on Christmas Eve in 2018. Nothing in our relationship has been traditional, he introduced me to his family before we were officially dating, which I was not prepared for. But our families have welcomed us both and we started our own family in 2016. Our daughter Ella is not just the apple of our eyes, she’s the whole orchard, and is so excited to be our flower girl. Through the years, we have been there for each other, grown, matured, and our love has never wavered.

We have struggled financially with planning our wedding and budgeting for it. Making sure we get married soon is so important for us, especially since Zak’s mom has Multiple Myeloma (a bone and blood cancer) and her being able to come means the world to us. With her cancer advancing, our family is hopeful to be able to include her in as many milestones as possible. His mom and our daughter have an unbreakable bond so I also know seeing Ella as our flower girl will mean the world to her.

After losing my mom to pancreatic cancer in 2008 and seeing my stepdad struggle with his health, we know planning important milestones like our wedding, soon is imperative. It was beyond bittersweet to get pregnant have my daughter, and get engaged without my mom. I know that shopping for a dress, getting ready for my wedding, and celebrating without my mom will be heartbreaking, but I am grateful that the family who will attend are there with us.

We are so grateful and excited to have this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Ability Awareness Through My Lens Post 25

Monday January 26th, 2020 kicking off this weeks Vlog/Blog I will be sharing an incredible story of an upcoming artist “Taras The Artist”. Celestial Thomas had the pleasure of interviewingTaras in studio followed by a musical performance.

Taras was born in In Ivano-Frankivsk,Ukraine. As a kid he was exposed to music constantly. His grandfather played the accordion and parents played the guitar at family gatherings singing folk songs. At age 8, Taras picked up an cassette tape recorder and started his own “radio show” where he would interview, family, friends and neighbors around his town. He would then copy the tapes and give them out for peoples entertainment.

His father left to the United States when he was 2 years old and mother followed her husband just 3 years after, leaving Taras in the care of his grandparents. By age 10 his family did everything they could to reunite. Taras was sent to Moscow, Russia with his grandmother to get a new identity and a fake mother to bring him over seas. It took 9 months and 3 tries before he was successfully smuggled into the United States though Tijuana, Mexico being held for ransom at the boarder by the individuals that created the paperwork. After he was paid off, Taras and his “mother” Got on a bus to Chicago to reunite with his family after years of being apart.

Taras in his teenage years participated in talent shows, battle of the bands, performing anywhere he could. Organizing shows and events, bringing other artist together and eventually becoming a solo artist that produces and records his own original work. At age 22 he left his home town with just his car and 100$ in his pocket. Meeting musicians, performing, and selling Cd’s to get to the next town on the road.

I hope you enjoy this fun packed video. For an extended interview stay tuned for The SacTown Insider Rogue Edition on January 29th, 20020 and SacTown Underground for future air dates. I look forward to bringing you the next adventure next week!
